DESCRIPTION:2026 11C1 Convention Service Project \nA kitchen counter top appliance and food drive!  \nOur Spring Service Project for 2026 is a project to help homeless Veterans transition to \nhousing. \nCommunity Rebuilders will be our Partner. It is a Grand Rapids outreach program to help those \nthat have fallen between the cracks. They have a Veterans division headed by Jim Anderson. \nTheir service area is regional and their connections to other veteran service organization is \nimpressive. A large Number our fall Homeless Veteran backpacks were distributed by them to \nour regional veterans. Mr. Anderson has arranged to educate us on the organization and its \nmission at the convention. \nIn our conversation of Veteran’s needs\, he mentioned when a homeless veteran transitions to \nhousing\, he has very little to bring to their new home. He tells me they are constantly looking \nfor counter top Kitchen appliances to get them started. I saw a need and volunteered Lions \nhelp. They are looking for things like: Toasters\, Coffee Pots\, Toaster ovens\, can openers \n(electric and hand held)\, pots and pans sets\, Silverware\, blenders air fryers\, crock pots and \nespecially microwaves. New is not necessary. Used\, clean and in working condition is \nacceptable. \nHe called back a few days later to explain they also give food boxes designed for 3 days to a \nweek of nonperishable food items and always needed donations for those as well. He \nsuggested: Soups\, Mac & Cheese\, Ramen Noodles\, Peanut Butter\, Jelly\, Canned Chili\, Tuna\, \npasta Noodles\, Canned Vegetables and/or fruit\, crackers\, Canned Meats and/or Stews\, Cereal. \nSo\, a kitchen counter top appliance and food drive! Collected March 27\, 28 at 11c1 convention. \nGet your club\, neighbors\, local businesses to contribute. Give up your old stored appliances. \nGet them to me\, a district officer\, or someone attending the district 11c1 convention. Jim \nAnderson will have a truck to take them from the convention hotel to Community Rebuilders \nCenter after his breakout session talk. Alexander along with several seminars. \nThe event kicks off with an informal picnic at 6:15 location TBD on Thursday night. \nFriday & Saturday are seminars ending with a banquet dinner Saturday night \nYou will need to RSVP and details will follow as we get closer to the event. \nThere is a SERVICE PROJECT: \n \nThe shelters in our communities are always in need of socks for their guests! \nWe can make a difference statewide through our donations of mens’\, womens’\, and childrens’ socks. Donated socks will be distributed to local shelters identified by the District Governors and the District GST. \nWe are asking each District to donate 75 pairs of socks to the shelters in Muskegon\, which will be presented at the State Convention. \nDistrict Governors have been challenged to collect socks throughout their District. \nThe District with the overall largest donation will receive recognition at the State Convention May 18-20\, 2023. \nThe Service Event will be a Sock Hop with local representatives from shelters in Muskegon. \n
